may I point out to your kind attention that in your research you may bump against a littlt problem: the way to translitterate or transcribe form Arabic to Latin / European script in order to run the search. Names you are looking for may very well be found, though using other forms. In your case, try not only Naaman but also Numan, Numaan, Nu'man, Nu'maan.

I am interested in finding out how Ahmad benNaaman, a merchant from 
Basra ended up being a special envoy to Sultan Saeed,

Did he reside in Oman?

Is he related to the BaniKaab tribe who ruled Al Muhamarra and Ahwaz?

He carries the same family name which makes me more curious.

Forgive me for this intrusion, but I would like to clarify an important issue related to the ship's name. There is a common mistake that the name of the Omani ship that visited New York in 1840 is  "Sultanah". This seems to be wrong. I have done a good research on this topic and have found out that the ship's correct name is ???????? in Arabic or "Sultani" or "Sultanee" in English.
