Assalamu alaikum,
Hope this finds you all well and either in Oman or happily dreaming about
it.
I sent members of the list a message five months ago asking for feedback on
Oman, the business environment and opportunities to help me explore the
option of relocating to Oman. Several people generously responded with
guidance and support. Thank you all.
Alhamdulillah I have finally decided to make the move from Cairo to Muscat.
Insha'Allah plan is to open a 30-bedroom hotel/apartment-hotel somewhere
like Utheiba, Khuwair or Qurum. I am also open to invest in any other
opportunity that would appear to fit my skills (hotel & restaurant
management, marketing and generally entrepreneurship) and budget, so
suggestions are still welcome.
Since I am new to the place, any advice or help from people with more
experience or people already in Oman is highly appreciated.
In particular:
1. Insha'Allah I want to travel to Muscat around beginning of April to set
up a Limited Liability Company as a foreign investor. I already know the
main steps from the Oman Investment site (OCIPED), but has anyone actually
gone through the process? Given that I find the right Omani 30% partner
(which I still haven't) and have the 150,000RO in cash, is it a fairly quick
and straightforward process? to the extent that I can do it myself, or do I
still need to hire a lawyer/accountant? How long does the process usually
take?
2. I heard there is reasonably-priced beachfront land somewhere near Muscat,
does anyone know where that is or a trustworthy contact that can help with
real estate issues?
3. Anyone on the list active in Human Development of any sort?
Many thanks, wassalam,
Ali Badawy
